Jude is the golden retriever plush that served as the official zero‑gravity indicator on SpaceX’s Inspiration4 — the first all‑civilian orbital flight, launched September 15, 2021.
Named for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Jude is a soft 15" realistic golden in a custom white spacesuit with silver accents and the hospital logo — modeled after facility dogs Puggle and Huckleberry, who comfort kids during treatment.
Crew member Hayley Arceneaux, a St. Jude physician assistant and pediatric cancer survivor, brought Jude aboard. When Crew Dragon entered orbit, she released the plush; as Jude floated freely, ears flopping, the crew (and the world watching live) knew they had reached microgravity.
Official replicas funded St. Jude; the mission helped raise over $240M for research and care. Jude stands with the most meaningful zero‑G indicators in modern spaceflight — a symbol of resilience, generosity, and joy for those facing life’s hardest moments.
